Net-Worm.Win32.Koobface net worm infects Myspace and Facebook users

There is a new virus spreading among both Facebook and Muspace uswers – Net-Worm.Win32.Koobface.

It has two variants: Net-Worm.Win32.Koobface.a. /for Myspace/  and Net-Worm.Win32.Koobface.b /for  Facebook/

In  their malicious action, the net worms transform victim computers  into zombie computers to form botnets.

What is a Botnethttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botnet

The Net-Worm.Win32.Koobface.a. /for Myspace/ worm creates many commentaries to friends’ accounts.

The Net-Worm.Win32.Koobface.b /targets Facebook users/ creates many spam messages and sends them to the infected users’friends via the Facebook.

Messages and comments can include ‘Paris Hilton Tosses Dwarf On The Street’; ‘Examiners Caught Downloading Grades From The Internet’; ‘Hello’;’ You must see it!!! LOL. My friend catched you on hidden cam’;’ Is it really celebrity? Funny Moments’ and many others.

Messages and comments include links to http://youtube     .pl.

If you click on this link, you are redirected to http://youtube      .ru,  – a site which contains a video clip.

If the user wants to watch it, a message pops up reading that you need the latest version of Flash Player to watch the funny clip.

Of course, instead of the latest version of Flash Player, a malicious file called codecsetup.exe is downloaded to  victimcomputer; this file is also a network worm.

XP Antivirus 2008 is a Trojan!

I had surfing the net when a red alert in Tray menu started to appear. It read Windows Seciruty has to be updated.

It offered me a site with “XP Antivirus 2008”

As I tought it is Microsoft security center alert, entered the site  http://s c a n n e r . a n v i-s c a n n e r . c o m / 3 4 /? a d v i d  =  0 0 0 0 0 0 4 6 8 3 & H T T &  /Attention – better do not try to open/

When I saw the fake system scanning and $20 price to “clean my system” I quickly left but was too late.

Then Avira Antivir  started to alert about viruses detected. The computer became very slow.

I restarted in Safe Mode /F8/ and  ran Spyware Doctor – it found more than 20 viruses and 30 infected files. Spyware Doctor cleaned them. I had disabled System Restore in advance. /Important!/

Then ran Avira Antivir again and cleaned  17 trojans.

Open Task manager /alt+ctrl+del/ and stop the following processes:

vav.exe
XPAntivirus.exe
XPAntivirusUpdate.exe
xpa.exe
xpa2008.exe

Then Remove following XP Antivirus 2008 Registry Values:

HKEY_USERS\Software\XP antivirus

Email from admin@microsoft.com is a trojan downloader

Today a friend of mine was happy to receive a personal message from admin@microsoft.com

He opened it quickly. Then his antivirus program started to scream his computer is infected but it was too late.

It is a new kind of troian masked as email from Microsoft.

It is not from them, of course, only hackers are using email spoofing.

So, generally, it is important not to open emails you do not expect even from admin@microsoft.com, ebay, paypal, etc.

Monitor flickering problem – change refresh rate

A flickering monitor is not only unpleasant to work with but it is dangerous for your health. It may causes headache, eye problems, even can provoke migraines.

Monitor flicker may affects users in the autism spectrum, including people with Asperger ‘s Syndrome.

The problem with monitor flickering is caused of low refresh rate. It is measured in Mhz. Refresh rate has to be >75Hz.

Refresh rate depends also of screen resolution – the bigger screen resolution is – the higher refresh rate is neeed.

To change refreshrate, rightckick on empty point on your Desktop.

Then select the last menu option – Properties.

The ‘Display Properties’ window is opened:

display settings advanced

display settings advanced

Select Settings tab and click on Advanced button.

A new window pops up:

plug-and-play refresh-rate

plug-and-play refresh-rate

Here choose Monitor tab and from dropdown menu select the biggest refresh rate.

Click OK. Your refresh rate is changed.

And one more thing to try to improve performance:

Repeat steps above but instead of ‘Monitor’ tab, select Troubleshoot tab.

plug-and-play troubleshoot

plug-and-play troubleshoot

Move Hardware acceleration slider to the left and click OK.

Internet Explorer 7 mouse wheel opens new tab

I use IE7 so much but never knew that little trick to open links in new tab.

Usualy when you want to open a link in new tab you click with right mouse button, then select ‘Open in new tab’ submenu.

This makes two mouse clicks and one mouse move.

I found a better way to open link in new tab. You maybe know it but it is new for me:

Point the link and click mouse wheel!

It is so simple! It saves me hundreds of clicks!

This little trick works for all kinds of mouses.

Hope to like it.

IE bug resolved! Or how to fix Internet Explorer operation aborted

You can test if your Internet Explorer has Operation Aborted bug  by clicking on Google mail : htpp://mail.google.com/mail/ – if error message appears – you got it!

I wrote before that the horrible IE bug with message Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site is unbeatable. Even Microsoft don’t give a solution on their page.

I decided to make a last try to beat that error message. Because I like IE and don’t want to change it whatever others people say.

Here are the steps:

There is an option in Internet Explorer which allow us to manage add-ons.

So, follow the pictures:

In Internet Explorer menu, click Tools, then find TAb PROGRAMS, then click on MANAGE ADD-ons.. button

IE tools menu

Here is the new window opened. There are many addons IE use to open multimedia in webpages: /Skype, Flash,Java…/

Skype addon

Select one by one Skype addons and click DISABLE radiobutton.

I had SnagIt addons and decided to disable them too, but almost 99% sure the Skype is the problem here.

Then Click OK, OK again  and restart IE.

Voila !! No more Bad messages when surfing the net!!!

You may use Google mai link above to test the result.

It seems the problem is in Skype not in IE.

I saw many angry people blaming Microsoft and IE and speaking how good is Firefox. But who has no idea of how computer works, how difficult is to make a program to run, he has no right to speak about IT matters.

Please leave your feedback in case this helped to you.

Thank you for reading!
