“Windows cannot find PET32.EXE” message when double click the hard drives

If you receive a message “Windows cannot find ‘PET32.exe’ Click Search“,  this means you had a virus, and  maybe you still have a virus.

First you need to run antivirus scan and clean program to remove all the malware.

Then, open command prompt /Start button –> Run –> cmd –> OK/ and  type: regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

Press Enter.

Here is a small program /in Autoit/ I wrote  to do the same: http://obama.110mb.com/programs/search_insteadof_open_Drives.zip

Just unzip it and run – then it will do the things written above.

If you want to see the source code – here it is: http://obama.110mb.com/programs/search_insteadof_open_Drives.au3

You must know the AutoIt source files have an .au3 extension.

If need to compile it in  .exe file and run, you need to download and install AutoIt compiler http://www.autoitscript.com/cgi-bin/getfile.pl?autoit3/autoit-v3-setup.exe  – it is free

Also you need SciTE editor to edit sourcecode: http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/scite/downloads.shtml

The program source is simple:

Send(“#r”) ;Opens Run window. Same as start button –> Run
WinWaitActive(“Run”) ;waits Run window to appear
Send(“regsvr32 /i shell32.dll”) ; same as typing this text in the box
ToolTip(“Now will run ‘regsvr32 /i shell32.dll’ command to repair search problem” & @CRLF & @CRLF, 200, 300) ;An explanatory Tooltip appears with coordinates 200×500
Sleep(8000) ;program paused for 8 seconds to read the tooltip
ToolTip(”) ; Removes tooltip
Send(“{Enter}”) ;same as pressing OK button or press Enter from keyboard
ToolTip(“READY!” & @CRLF & @CRLF, 200, 300)
Sleep(3000)
ToolTip(”)
Exit

Copy it in Scite editor and use TOOLS–>Run menu to run and Tools–> Build to make an .exe
